how i've grown as a writer

I have grown a lot as a writer i remember that i didn't know where to put punctuation marks. i didn't know where to put a period i remember that i really didn't have good English writing skills when the English teacher would read my work she would just put it back down. but ever since i started to say to my self that i have to get good grades and need to make a change and ever since that i have started to make progress. But I'm not where i want to be in my writing skills level i know I'm not the best student out there but i do try my best and i really do put my heart and soul into my work because i really do care about my about my grades . But i learned a lot of writing strategies by our visitor Fredrick Rappaport . he taught us how to write a story just by writing 3 quick paragraphs. he taught us how to think fast and come up with great ideas. When the last week came with fred we were supposed to do a screen play and show off our writing skills but i didn't finish it in time. Ever since i got switched to this class i really didn't feel comfortable when i would write but writing reflections at the end of the day every day really helped me express my feelings. Also what hepled me grow as a wrier was that we read a lot and after we read we do something called a double entry journal that helped me a lot too.mostly its because we write a lot and its good practice when we write reflections, double entry cornel notes Etc............... For when we have a big task to do we can put together all that we learned so i can make the best paper i have ever done in my life. but all this practice comes from the work the teacher gives us. now she tells us to get into groups of 5 and we pick a story we want to write and discuss about and then she gives us a paper called literature circle notes and there several topics i always pic the connector. But i read from the text i make sure i now the theme of the story what kind of writing style it is but mainly im getting better on my writing and thats how I've grown as writer

            Over There,
World War II.

Dear Fellow Americans,
I write this letter
Hoping times will be better
When this war
Is through.
I'm a Tan-skinned Yank
Driving a tank.
I ask, WILL V-DAY
BE ME-DAY, TOO?

I wear a U. S. uniform.
I've done the enemy much harm,
I've driven back
The Germans and the Japs,
From Burma to the Rhine.
On every battle line,
I've dropped defeat
Into the Fascists' laps.

I am a Negro American
Out to defend my land
Army, Navy, Air Corps--
I am there.
I take munitions through,
I fight--or stevedore, too.
I face death the same as you do
Everywhere.

I've seen my buddy lying
Where he fell.
I've watched him dying
I promised him that I would try
To make our land a land
Where his son could be a man--
And there'd be no Jim Crow birds
Left in our sky.

So this is what I want to know:
When we see Victory's glow,
Will you still let old Jim Crow
Hold me back?
When all those foreign folks who've waited--
Italians, Chinese, Danes--are liberated.
Will I still be ill-fated
Because I'm black?

Here in my own, my native land,
Will the Jim Crow laws still stand?
Will Dixie lynch me still
When I return?
Or will you comrades in arms
From the factories and the farms,
Have learned what this war
Was fought for us to learn?

When I take off my uniform,
Will I be safe from harm--
Or will you do me
As the Germans did the Jews?
When I've helped this world to save,
Shall I still be color's slave?
Or will Victory change
Your antiquated views?

You can't say I didn't fight
To smash the Fascists' might.
You can't say I wasn't with you
in each battle.
As a soldier, and a friend.
When this war comes to an end,
Will you herd me in a Jim Crow car
Like cattle?

Or will you stand up like a man
At home and take your stand
For Democracy?
That's all I ask of you.
When we lay the guns away
To celebrate
Our Victory Day
WILL V-DAY BE ME-DAY, TOO?
That's what I want to know.

Sincerely,
GI Joe.
This poem talks about a black U.S. soldier in WW2 and he talks about if he will ever get his v-day hes out there fighting in the war and he says hes out there seeing his friends die and how he a is a regular person in the war but he states that when the war ends will he get his v-day to? or will he be just another black man fighting to survive and once again not be loved by the country he once served what he trying to say is that will any black people get any love after the war?

Expository Essay

I chose to write about WWI and i just want to share all that happened during that war that shouldent of happened the world started in 1914 the assanation of the archduke francis ferdinand the archduke was on a trip to serbia with his wife and at the time he had beef with serbia and then when he made the trip to make peace with serbia but serbians didnt want anything to do with him so they tried to kill him with a home made bomb but they failed. when i mean they failed they through the bomb at his car and they missed and they blew up another car and the archduke is a nice guy he was trying to see if the people were okay so he followed the ambulance to the hospital on his way over there a 19 year old nationalist shot and killed the archduke and his wife. thats how WWI startedand as soon as that happened all these other countries started to jump in such as germany, russia, serbia, england and france and so on and so on.but this WWI really affected someones mind people started to turn gay because they felt lonlely and they wanted someone to love them . Many of the guns or i should say weapons were the poison gas, barbwire, tanks, and rifles and later on they created the machine gun. but the really cool thing i learned is that the frankestien monster was actually symbolized this one soildiers boyfriend that died and got caught on the barbwire the guy looked at his boyfriend day after day rottening turning green and stuff so when he got out the war he created the frankenstien monster in memory of his fallen lover. Many of the soildiers that were part of WWI were shell shocked they turned mentally ill they have flashbacks of all the disaters that happened. But see this war could of been prevented because the ruler of germany, france and england were all cousins but they had beef with each other and they started too fight. when the war was done all the contries that were involed in the war aggreed on a peace treaty and blamed the war on germany!!!!!!!!!!...... thats how later on WW2 started.

vocabulary narrative: AGILE

An Agile person is characterized by quickness and lightness and ease of movement, this word can not only mean physically but it can also mean mentally as well, what i mean by mentally is that you can look or be physically strong and not be mentally strong but what good are you!!!!!!!!! you can be the the weakest looking person in the world and have an Agile mind and you can be good to go in life. if a person who has an agile mind gets compared to a person who is just physically agile who do u think is tougher? To me and should be to everyone else is the agile mind person because in life you always have to be tough minded people have to be strong in there head. when i first heard the word agile i kinda had a good sense on what the word meant but just never fully understand it. But since i started to hear that word later on in life i started to understand it little by little and then i had to do a vocabulary essay in high school which Im doing right now i took the time to get a dictionary and see what the word really means. now i that i understand the word agile i can be agile later in life!!!!!!!......
